Review:
I've waited a long time to find a copy of this that wasn't edited (in other words...avoid copies that are titled "Fanatic"), and finally this year this was released uncut! It's in a way a follow up to the classic "Maniac" as Joe Spinell plays a similarly disturbed character in this one, however the two films are most different and you definitely don't have to see one to appreciate the other. If you walk into this expecting a horror movie in the traditional sense, you will likely be unimpressed. This is more a disturbed stalker sort of film in a way. Spinell plays a superfan of an actress called Jana Bates whom he wants to star in his movie. The setting takes place at Cannes Film Festival in the early '80s so the backdrop is fascinating. Also Spinell's acting really must be seen, so few can pull off a character of this calibre! There is some killing here, but it's definitely more for those wanting to see something unusual I'd say. A bit of a let down but in other ways it made up for it's cheapness and shortcomings.
