Review:
This 'un is a Lewton production and it's very clear as it's elegantly filmed, with lovely contrast. The film is graceful and easy to watch though never showing the viewer much at all. The story is about a young woman who is informed that her sister hasn't paid her tuition in about 6 months (the two were very close and in fact all that each other had). She then goes on a hunt for her sister and learns her sister's husband has been missing her too. On top of everything Mary (the not missing sister) sees a dead man on the subway, what is going on? Well it turns out that a satanic cult of all things is after her, but I dare not say more. The actual story is a good one, it seems rather progressive and it's interesting. It's just that it is rather tame, and well I didn't think it was Lewton's best ("Cat People" is just creepier). Still if you are easily scared or love shadowy atmosphere and a decent story this is worth your time. I should also mention that is has a scene in the shower although it's not quite deadly!
