Review:
This is one beautifully shot film (I watched the blu ray edition), it's full of symbolism (and red herrings) but always visually appealing. This is Dario Argento's first full-length I believe and what a brilliant start...especially when it's also one of the first giallos (if not the first). I'm hit or miss with the giallo genre, but this one I could follow (even if it was a bit surprising). Still it's all neatly handed to us, it's interesting, we get to be part of the investigation and learn all the different factors about what's going on. Also the general absurdity of this in places is extremely charming (cat meat anyone?), plus although not loaded with blood what is there is really effective. Of course it's about some women being stabbed to death and a man is witness to a stabbing therefore becomes deeply involved in the case. The rest of the time we are trying to figure out whodunnit and why, but I assure you it's really worth your time as it didn't disappoint in the slightest!
