Review:
I actually didn't know much about this story going into it, I've never seen another version of the film so I found this to be rather surprisingly good. At first though it was kind of dull for quite a while, I think they stretched out the "getting to know you" bit for a little long, but then it picks up and becomes really amazing! Again the sets are some of the best you'll ever see and Lon's make-up simply must been seen to be believed (not to mention how much he puts into the role of the Hunchback...amazing). He falls in love with a gypsy dancer named Esmerelda who is also taunted for her heritage. They are both ridiculed in the public eye but the Hunchback retaliates by causing mischief and sticking out his tongue and whatnot. They really piss him off though when they get him for kidnapping Esmerelda and the publicly whip him until Esmerelda saves him. I'm not going to ruin the rest but it's action packed, exciting and extremely well made. This is an epic classic that must be seen and although not as consistent as The Phantom, it's still got it's own charms and violence (Don't forget the violence!).
