Review:
Now this one I saw had an incredibly high rating and in fact many will go so far to say this is the best Mexican horror film there is. Even the IMDB has this rated an astounding 8.0, how could I resist watching it? Well it is rather atmospheric, it's a very classy film but the problem is not a heck of a lot happens. In fact if you like any sort of death of any kind or blood or any of the typical trappings you will be sorely disappointed. It's about a girl's school that has a rather mean headmistress. She won't allow the girls to go home for vacation because they were caught going into the nearby tower that is off limits. One of the girls; Claudia is being summonsed out to the tower in her sleep. In her dreams she sees a young girl who is hung in the tower. From there it kind of goes into a tale of possession. There are a few minor scares, but it's pretty hard to be afraid of a normal looking young girl who seems harmless for the most part. The other big issue is that this foreign film has the most dialog out of any I've ever seen. The subtitles are such a chore to read, 20 minutes in my eyes were exhausted! Those young girls never shut up! I think a dubbed version is absolutely necessary for those of us who don't speak Spanish, but the only available one is subtitled, and seriously they flash so fast you can't read some of 'em. Oh well, it's certainly not a bad film, just uneventful and overhyped. I guess when compared to "Santo" it's a serious effort, but I simply enjoyed watching his movies more.
