Review:
I have been agonizing over how to rate this since I've seen it, I mean it's extremely hilarious and great fun to watch. That being said it's incredibly inept and ridiculous and truthfully it is a rip-off of "Dawn Of The Dead" in nearly every respect. How do I mean that? Well it borrows from the plot heavily, it borrows the music from Goblin, and Bruno purposely stretched the film out to be around the same length as "Dawn" even. If that isn't dedication to copying, then I don't know what is! I guess to start off I shall tell you why this is hilarious, two words really....stock footage. They used a ton to stretch the length out, and even reused the same stock footage repeatedly. The issue with this is that the footage they are using doesn't match in quality, time of day or anything! We noticed the owl flying from "City Of The Living Dead" and various other shots of animals from other movies. One of the best moments is the shot of a monkey jumping from tree to tree, then they just reversed the exact same footage to make it look like it jumped backwards back to the original tree. The very all time best one though is where they are showing our group of actors at a tribal fire. We see the natives banging away and having a great time, then flash to our cast members with one guy sorta dressed like the tribesmen trying to fit in and back and forth for a really long time. Hilariously Mattei tries to make it appear to not be stock footage by making one of the tribesmen who is wearing a mask walk out of the footage into the cast using a guy who is almost dressed similarly with a mask that resembles the other guys, only it's way bigger and obviously paper mache. Sigh. Okay well now that you know why you should watch the movie I'll actually get into the footage that Mattei did shoot by himself. It starts out in a nuclear factory where some gas hits the employees and they turn into zombie like creatures. Then we see this reporter and her crew as they go out looking for the story. Also involved are the military which are trying to keep the problem under control...all while being as sexist as humanly possible. When they aren't making ridiculously funny sexist remarks there are usually some tits in the background, a total dude's movie through and through! Don't get me wrong though, I wasn't offended, just surprised because I can't believe this movie went there. Anyhow the story has huge plot holes, the ending makes the movie seem really even dumber as the reasoning behind the poisonous gas zombies is supposedly social commentary...you'll see. Also when they are trying to show the effect this "outbreak" has on society it gets really super boring, but most of the way through it's really easy to watch. Definitely one to watch with some friends for a load of fun, I can't even believe this one exists!
