Review:
Now this was something entirely strange yet captivating. I must admit I picked this film because I heard it was frickin' gross...and it kind of is, but not quite as gratuitous as some goreophiles may be expecting. It isn't quite just a splatter film, it's actually more of an art film (that makes sense....most of the time) and it's really well shot. The beginning is slower and not a whole lot happens (so some horror fans will be put off) but the payoff is worth it. The story is about a young scientist who has invented a drug which turns pain into pleasure (erm "Flowers of Flesh and Blood" anyone?). Anyhow because he is quite young he can't find subjects so he uses his Mother's patients (she is also some sort of researcher) who are unsuspecting. Well the drug takes about 48 hours to take effect and all three girls have entirely different reactions. One girl has a food fascination and ends up eating herself and no, I won't give more detail but it must be seen. Another is extremely vain and takes to piercing herself, and the other? Well she stares at a cactus, does virtual reality with it, falls for the scientist and there is a twist ending which I dare not spoil. Seriously a well done film, just once in a while it does get too carried away with being "arty" but for the most part, quite an unusually entertaining find.
